The Patan High Court has issued an interim order to not implement the decision to suspend Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Police chief Rajunath Pandey.
On Wednesday, a bench comprising Judges Rishi Rajbhandari and Dilli Ratna Shrestha ordered that the decision to suspend Pandey not be enforced.
“An interim order has been issued in the name of the respondents as per Rule 42 (1) of the High Court Regulations, instructing that the suspension letter dated June 3, 2025, not be implemented and that the petitioner be allowed to continue working in his position," the order states.
Pandey had filed a writ petition at the high court on June 8, challenging his suspension.
KMC Mayor Balen Shah, Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol, Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain, acting chief of KMC Police Bishnu Joshi, and the Municipal Executive Office were named as respondents in the petition.
During a preliminary hearing on June 10, the court had called both parties on June 18 (Wednesday) to discuss whether to issue an interim order or not.
On May 20, KMC’s Chief Administrative Officer Guragain had sought clarification from Pandey, alleging that he caused disturbance while Guragain was heading to the office on April 3.
On June 3, Guragain decided to suspend Pandey for six months.
