Former PM Deuba returns home after five months

Kathmandu, Aug 13

Former prime minister and outgoing president of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba, has returned to the country.

Deuba returned home on Thursday after five months. He arrived at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu a short while ago.

Deuba was welcomed upon his arrival at the airport by leaders including Purna Bahadur Khadka, Shashank Koirala, Bimalendra Nidhi, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Gyanendra Bahadur Karki, Mohan Bahadur Basnet, Min Bahadur Bishwakarma, Jit Jung Basnet, Kantika Sejuwal, and Ishwari Neupane.

Deuba had been in Singapore and Hong Kong for medical treatment since February. He returned to Nepal from Hong Kong via Thailand on Thursday afternoon.

Leaders said that Deuba was welcomed with fanfare.

Deuba's residence in Budhanilkantha was set on fire during the Gen Z protests on September 9 last year. The Deuba couple was also physically assaulted at the time.

Since then, the Deuba family has been living in a rented house in Maharajgunj.
