Search and rescue efforts are continuing for people who went missing in Wednesday’s flood.
A large number of personnel from all three security agencies have been deployed to search for those still unaccounted for.
Nearly 2,500 people remain out of contact following the flood that struck the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers on Wednesday.
The flood entered the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa from the Tibet region, flowing through the Trishuli River down to the Narayani River.
Bodies of flood victims have been swept away as far as Nawalparasi West.
Meanwhile, search operations began in Golaghat, Chitwan, on Sunday morning.
A team deployed from the Nepal Army’s Gorakh Battalion has started searching the confluence of the Trishuli and Rapti rivers at Golaghat.
The battalion has been conducting search operations in the area since the first day of the flooding.
Water boats and drones are also being used in the search operation.
“Because the two rivers split into channels here, there is a high possibility that bodies could be here. That is why the search operation has been intensified at Golaghat,” said Bishal Kumal, chairman of the Rapti Control Buffer Zone Community Forest and the Chitwan Golaghat Tourism Development Committee.
Search operations were temporarily halted after reports emerged early in the morning that floodwaters had again risen in the Rasuwa area.
After the water level receded, search efforts resumed along the riverbanks.
