A separate room has been designated for former prime minister Sher Bahadur Deuba at the contact office opened by the non-establishment faction of the Nepali Congress in Chundevi, Kathmandu.
Deuba returned to Nepal on Thursday afternoon after spending five months abroad for medical treatment.
Party leaders and workers escorted him from Tribhuvan International Airport to the Chundevi contact office with fanfare.
After arriving at the office, Deuba briefly addressed the leaders and workers gathered there. Later, he also held discussions with party leaders in the room designated for him.
Name plates reading “Sher Bahadur Deuba, President” have been placed both outside the room and on a table inside. Previously, Deuba had issued statements simply under the name “Sher Bahadur Deuba.”
The contact office has separate rooms for Deuba and former general secretary Shashank Koirala, who heads the committee organizing a national gathering from August 14 to 16.
Leaders from the Deuba faction did not participate in the special general convention held in January. They have been conducting parallel activities by opening the Chundevi contact office.
Deuba and party leader Purna Bahadur Khadka had sought a review of the case related to the special general convention. The Supreme Court recently allowed the case to be reviewed.
With the court granting permission for the case to be heard again, the dispute within the Nepali Congress has once again come to the forefront.
Former general secretary Shashank Koirala, who went to the airport to welcome Deuba on Thursday, also said, “Our president is Sher Bahadur Deuba.” He added that they were in favor of uniting the party.
