Bodies of people who died in the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood continue to be recovered.
In the latest development, 54 bodies and 25 body parts washed downstream by the flood have been recovered from the banks of the Narayani River and nearby areas in Nawalparasi West.
According to the Province Emergency Operations Center under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Law, Industry, and Transport of Lumbini province, the bodies and body parts had been recovered by 10 p.m. on August 29.
The ministry said that on August 27, a total of 27 bodies and one body part were recovered. Of the bodies found, eight were women, 16 were men, one was a boy, and two were girls.
On August 28, seven bodies and 12 body parts were recovered.
Similarly, on August 29, authorities recovered 20 bodies and 15 body parts. The bodies included five women, 13 men, one boy, and one girl.
Meanwhile, 168 people from 12 districts of Lumbini province remain out of contact after the Bhotekoshi flood. According to district-wise figures released by the ministry, Dang has the highest number of people still unaccounted for, with 41.
The other districts are Rupandehi with 35 people out of contact, Banke with 20, Rukum East with 16, Rolpa with 14, Palpa with 11, Pyuthan with 10, Arghakhanchi with nine, Bardiya with eight, Gulmi with seven, Nawalparasi West with six, and Kapilvastu with four.
So far, 13 people affected by the Bhotekoshi flood have come back into contact. They include six people from Rupandehi, five from Dang, and one each from Banke and Pyuthan, according to the ministry.
Authorities said that unidentified bodies and body parts recovered from various locations have been kept in hospital morgues, while the process of identifying them is underway.
