The Supreme Court administration has registered the supplementary petitions filed by former Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba and former vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka seeking to halt the party’s general convention process.
Deuba and Khadka had submitted the petitions separately on Monday. The court administration registered both petitions on Tuesday.
According to Joint Registrar Arjun Prasad Koirala, spokesperson for the Supreme Court, the petitions have been scheduled for a hearing on Thursday following their registration.
Deuba and Khadka had submitted the supplementary petitions to the Supreme Court on Friday. However, they withdrew both petitions the same day to make some corrections.
They were resubmitted on Monday and registered after the court reviewed them.
The Nepali Congress central committee had announced a schedule to hold its 15th general convention from October 2 to 5.
Keeping the central convention timetable unchanged, the party’s central election committee recently published a calendar starting with ward-level conventions from September 9.
Deuba and Khadka had earlier petitioned the Supreme Court seeking a review of its decision concerning the party’s special general convention, and the court allowed the review. Therefore, Deuba, Khadka, and other members of the non-establishment faction argue that the general convention should not be held until the case is finally resolved.
Deuba and Khadka have sought the annulment of the convention schedule issued by the central election committee.
The Deuba faction did not participate in the special general convention held in January.
