Prime Minister Balen Shah is set to attend Parliament wearing dark sunglasses.
He will attend the House of Representatives meeting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, where lawmakers will have a direct question-and-answer session with him.
Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal had urged lawmakers, through party whips and chief whips, not to attend House meetings wearing dark sunglasses. He had asked those who needed to wear sunglasses to provide a medical report explaining the reason.
Despite the request, the prime minister is set to attend Parliament wearing dark sunglasses.
PM Shah has even written to the Federal Parliament Secretariat explaining why he needs to wear them.
The prime minister has said in the letter that he needs to wear dark sunglasses due to eye problems and has also submitted his medical report to the Parliament Secretariat.
Citing difficulty in looking at bright light, the prime minister underwent an eye examination on August 7 at the Nepal Army’s Birendra Hospital in Chhauni, Kathmandu.
Lieutenant Colonel Dr Sachit Dhakal conducted the examination.
According to the eye examination report, PM Shah has difficulty looking at bright light and suffers from dry eyes, for which he needs to use eye drops periodically.
Dr Dhakal confirmed that he examined PM Shah’s eyes for the complaint of difficulty in seeing in bright light.
“He has been found to have dry eye disease for which he has been prescribed Carboxymethylcellulose 0.5% eye drop to be used frequently as required,” Dr Dhakal said. “He has been further advised to use ocular precautionary measures (shades) when being in a bright light environment to relieve the troublesome symptoms.”
The prime minister therefore informed the Parliament Secretariat in writing on August 11 that he needs to wear dark sunglasses.
