As the Nepali Congress special general convention continues at Bhrikuti Mandap, Kathmandu, acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka issued a statement on Monday afternoon, urging party members not to engage in any activities that could harm the party.
“It is necessary to end the uneasy situation that has arisen within the party. In this context, I sincerely appeal to all concerned not to engage in any activities that could adversely affect party unity, and earnestly request everyone to move forward with complete unity within the party,” Khadka said in the statement.
He also called on all Nepali Congress members, office-bearers of the central committee, all central members, Mahasamiti members, general convention representatives, office-bearers and members at the provincial, district, constituency, municipal, and ward levels, as well as sister organizations, well-wishers, and supporters, to take the country’s difficult situation seriously.
Khadka said that Congress members once again bear a historic responsibility as custodians of nationalism and democracy.
"It is already ensured that the policy of the Nepali Congress can be revised and the leadership can be changed easily through the 15th general convention scheduled for May 2026, after the House of Representatives election is completed. Therefore, it is necessary for the entire party rank and file to unite as a campaign for the upcoming House of Representatives election," he stated.
He also stressed that with the election scheduled for March 5, the Nepali Congress must remain united.
“In such circumstances, it is indispensable to be organized and strong. However, an uneasy and uncertain situation has currently emerged within the Nepali Congress. History shows that whenever the country has faced challenging circumstances, the Nepali Congress has correctly assessed the situation at different points in time and provided appropriate solutions under its leadership,” the statement said.
