The identities of all three people who died in the Bolero pickup accident that occurred on Thursday morning in Rolpa have been confirmed.
The deceased have been identified as 40-year-old Jiudhan Chaudhary, his 30-year-old wife Kamala Chaudhary, originally from Shrigaun in Dangisharan Rural Municipality-7 of Dang district and currently residing in Ghorahi Sub-metropolitan City-14, and the driver 25-year-old Bir Bahadur Chaudhary of Desahi in Ghorahi-7, Dang.
According to Inspector Krishna Shrestha, Rolpa’s acting police spokesperson, the victims were identified by relatives who arrived from Dang.
During police investigation, it was found that the pickup truck involved in the crash had been registered at a checkpoint of the Area Police Office, Holeri, on June 3 at around 10:30 a.m. The driver Bir Bahadur had entered the vehicle details, listing his address as Ghorahi, Dang. He had also recorded that the pickup was carrying goods to Holeri from Siddhababa Suppliers in Ghorahi.
Based on this information, police contacted relatives in Dang, which led to delays in identifying the victims.
Preliminary investigation suggests the victims had traveled to Rolpa to deliver goods from the shop.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Pancha Kumar Bakhu, chief of Rolpa Police, who reached the site, said that the bodies were found stuck on a cliff about 300 meters below the road, while the pickup truck was located in a completely wrecked condition about 600 meters down.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. along the Shahid Marga road section at Byangkhola in Gharti Gaun, Madi Rural Municipality-2, when the single pickup Bolero with temporary number plate MH 14 TCJ 471 fell approximately 600 meters from the road.
The crash site is about 4 kilometers southeast of the Byang Khola Area Police Office in Gharti Gaun.
As all three people in the vehicle died, the exact cause of the accident has not yet been determined.
Police said that further investigation into the incident will continue.
