The Special Court has sought certified copies of two orders issued by the Supreme Court in the corruption case involving the procurement of the Telecommunications Traffic Monitoring and Fraud Control System (Teramocs).
On Sunday, a bench of Special Court Judges Narayan Prasad Paudel and Hemanta Rawal ordered the retrieval of copies of two previous Supreme Court orders in petitions filed by the defendants.
Former Nepali Congress lawmaker Mohan Bahadur Basnet is one of the defendants in the corruption case.
The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had also named Vanrise Solutions SAL (Offshore) Pvt Ltd as a defendant in the case.
The Nepal Telecommunications Authority had decided to cancel the Teramocs procurement process on May 3, 2019.
Challenging the decision, the company filed a petition at the Supreme Court on June 3, 2019.
On April 27, 2021, a bench of justices Cholendra Shumsher Rana and Kumar Chudal ruled in favor of the company.
The Special Court has also ordered a copy of the order issued in a petition filed by Taranath Dahal and others on September 6, 2012.
In that case, a bench of Justices Kalyan Shrestha and Devendra Gopal Shrestha had issued a directive order on December 7, 2015.
Furthermore, the Special Court has ordered that the statement of Keshav Gyawali, a telecommunications expert appointed by the CIAA for the investigation, be recorded.
The court directed that Gyawali be presented before the bench either in person or via video link through the Special Government Attorney's Office, Kathmandu.
The CIAA had filed the case against 16 individuals, including Basnet, on May 15 this year, seeking to recover Rs 3.22 billion in damages from them.
