Private school operators have warned of an indefinite school closure if their demands are not addressed.
Organizations of private school operators, including PABSON, National PABSAN, HISSAN, APEN, and NMA, have been staging street protests, expressing dissatisfaction with certain provisions in the School Education Bill.
The School Education Bill has been passed by the parliamentary committee and submitted to the House of Representatives along with a report.
Private school operators are protesting against two main provisions in the bill: making private schools non-profit and providing full scholarships to 10 to 15 percent of students based on the number of students.
Announcing further protests, private school operators have warned that if the government does not address their demands by September 3, they will close schools for an indefinite period.
“If our demands are not positively addressed by September 3, we will announce programs including an indefinite school closure,” stated a joint press release issued on Thursday by PABSON, National PABSAN, HISSAN, APEN, and NMA.
