The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has decided to file a case against 17 individuals, including Rita Singh, in connection with the alleged misappropriation of land belonging to Bal Mandir in Naxal, Kathmandu.
The OAG made the decision to prosecute them a few days ago.
Rita Singh, the then chairperson of Bal Mandir, is the elder sister of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh.
Surya Raj Dahal, spokesperson for the OAG, said that the office has forwarded the decision to prosecute Rita Singh and 16 others to the District Government Attorney's Office, Kathmandu.
"It has been decided to file a case in the Bal Mandir land scam. The decision has already been sent to the district," he said. "It has been recommended to prosecute 17 individuals."
Ram Hari Sharma Kafle, chief of the District Government Attorney's Office, Kathmandu, said that preparations are underway to file a case against 17 individuals including the then chairperson Rita Singh.
"It could be against 17 individuals. We are looing into it. If possible, we will register the case tomorrow itself," he said.
Complaints had been filed alleging that agreements were made repeatedly between 1992 and 2015 with the intent of inflicting financial losses on the Nepal Children's Organization (Bal Mandir).
Earlier, arrests warrants were issued for former office-bearers of the Nepal Children's Organization and others in connection with the land scam in April last year.
