The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police will also investigate medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, who is currently in custody at the District Police Range, Kathmandu.
Prasai faces charges of inciting violence and attempting to kill police personnel during a demonstration by royalists at Tinkune in Kathmandu on March 28.
Meanwhile, another complaint has been filed against Prasai at the CIB.
The Nepal Rastra Bank has written to the CIB to investigate Prasai for banking offenses.
According to Superintendent of Police Sudhir Raj Shahi, the CIB spokesperson, another arrest warrant has been issued for Prasai.
“Another arrest warrant has been issued against Prasai. As he is currently in custody at the District Police Range, we will take him in and conduct investigation,” Shahi said.
The central bank has asked the CIB to take action against Prasai for misusing loans.
He is accused of misusing loans worth billions of rupees taken for hotels, hospitals, and other businesses. Police are investigating the allegations.
The Joint People’s Movement Committee for the Restoration of Monarchy, led by Nawaraj Subedi, designated Prasai as “People’s Commander” on March 27. The next day, he organized a protest at Tinkune, which turned violent, resulting in incidents of arson, vandalism, and looting. Subsequently, an arrest warrant was issued for Prasai.
However, Prasai fled to Assam, India. A team from the Special Bureau of Nepal Police brought him back to Nepal on April 11.
While Prasai was still on the run, a complaint was filed against him at the Cyber Bureau too.
