The transport entrepreneurs arrested after calling strike on Friday have been released on Sunday after making written promise to renounce cartels.
Entrepreneurs including Chairman of the Federation of Nepal National Transport Entrepreneurs Yogendra Karmacharya were released after signing on documents promising to renounce cartels, register companies, operate vehicles and help the government. Other entrepreneurs arrested across the country have also been released after signing on such documents, according to the police.
The entrepreneurs arrested in Kathmandu made commitments to do business as per the government's decision in presence of Chief District Officer (CDO) of Kathmandu Kedar Nath Sharma and Chief of Kathmandu Police SSP Bishow Raj Pokharel. They have also agreed to have their route permits revoked and face action on going against the government's decision.
The transport entrepreneur had called strike on Friday against the government decision to end transport cartels. The police had arrested 93 entrepreneurs on Friday and Saturday
under the Essential Services Operation Act 1957.
Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa earlier on the day instructed the administration to release them only if they make written promise, and lodge case against them if they don't comply.
