The Department of Transport Management (DoTM) will revoke route permit of the entrepreneurs who do not operate their vehicles in support of the strike called by the transport cartels on Friday.
Director General (DG) at the department Rup Narayan Bhattarai said data of those not operating their vehicles is being collected from different districts and a meeting of the department later on the day will revoke permit of all those vehicles.
“We have sought data of those not operating their vehicles from the administration and police. We are also collecting the data ourselves in Kathmandu Valley. A meeting of the department in the evening after collecting all the data will revoke permit of all those not operating their vehicles,” Bhattarai said.
The department had earlier decided to revoke route permits for not operating vehicles even for a single day, and provide new route permits also in a single day.
Home Secretary Prem Kumar Rai said the government will start preparations to seize the vehicles and operate them after the department revoke route permits. “We will discuss what to do after they revoke the route permits,” Rai stated.
The Home Ministry earlier had said the government will seize the vehicles if the entrepreneurs don’t operate them, and use the drivers of security agencies including the Nepal Army to operate them. Nepal Police and Armed Police Force alone have almost 2,100 drivers.
Transport entrepreneurs have called a nation-wide strike on Friday protesting the government’s decision to end transport cartels.
