The President's Office has said rent of former president Ram Baran Yadav's residence has not been cleared as the former president has not responded how much money he needs in monthly rent.
"The Cabinet in February had decided to provide Rs 200,000 per month in rent to former presidents who don't have a house in Kathmandu Valley and Rs 100,000 to those who have one," Secretary at the President's Office Bhupendra Prasad Poudyal told Setopati. "We had accordingly asked him how much he will take. The money has not been released as he has yet to respond to that," he added.
Former president Yadav's personal secretary Kiran Panthi told Setopati that Yadav wishes the government to pay the needed rent instead of taking the amount fixed by the government. "He feels he cannot deal in money also due to the prestige of his former office. I have already written to the Prime Minister's Office and the President's Office conveying the same," he added.
Owner of the house, that former Yadav is renting, has issued a public notice on Monday giving Yadav a 15-day ultimatum to leave the property claiming that the lease agreement has not been renewed from the start of the fiscal year 2074/75 (mid-July) despite repeated reminders.
House owner Ravi Bhakta Bista has also warned of legal proceedings if rent and electricity tariff were not cleared and the property vacated within 15 days.
Former president Yadav has been living in that house since October 29, 2015. Such notices, that humiliate former president Yadav, have been published repeatedly in the media.
