The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has submitted a letter to the deputy speaker of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly regarding the removal of Uddhav Thapa as its parliamentary party leader in Bagmati province.
Thapa had written a letter expressing support for CPN-UML lawmaker Kiran Thapa Magar’s bid to become chief minister.
According to RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, the party’s official letter removing Thapa from the post was handed over to Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain.
He said that the deputy speaker had initially been reluctant to receive the letter.
Kumari Tamang, RPP chief whip in Bagmati, also raised the issue at Monday’s meeting of the Business Advisory Committee.
A UML-led government has been formed in Bagmati province, with three RPP lawmakers also serving as ministers. The chief minister is seeking a vote of confidence later on Monday.
The RPP central leadership had instructed its lawmakers not to join the Bagmati government or support the chief minister.
Separate whips have also been issued directing lawmakers either to support or oppose the chief minister in the confidence vote.
