The police have yet to book the culprits two days after the brutal attack on self-declared anti-corruption campaigner Gyanendra Shahi in Chitwan.
Chitwan Police has not showed urgency in search of the perpetrators stating that no complaint has been registered. "We cannot arrest anyone until we receive a complaint," SP with Chitwan Police Dan Bahadur Malla told Setopati.
Shahi was brutally attacked by a group in Chitwan on Saturday. A group attacked and tore the banner during a public anti-corruption program organized by Shahi. He was brutally thrashed while going to address a press conference about the attack.
He has since been flown to Kathmandu and is undergoing treatment at the Trauma Center of Bir Hospital.
SP Malla, on Sunday had claimed that the perpetrators have been identified and will soon be arrested. But Malla, who served as personal security officer for CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal for many years in the past, changed tack on Monday and cited lack of complaint.
Malla vented ire saying Shahi did not inform the police before organizing the program and fumed that no one can be punished without a complaint when asked why the police need to wait for a complaint when someone has been brutally thrashed.
"You organize programs without informing us and then complain you did not get security," he quipped.
Some district chapters of youth wing of ruling CPN has banned entry of Shahi in the respective districts for confronting Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai for delaying a Kathmandu-bound flight from Nepalgunj on September 14.
"Those who mislead the society by abusing the social media, foment conflicts and oppose the recent achievements and changes are sponsored and mobilized actors," the youth wing in Kaski had stated issuing a press statement a day later. "Banning entry of antagonists like Gyanendra Shahi who has been involved in such campaign in recent times in the republican land of Kaski, we urge the general public to help by supporting rule of law and recent achievements and changes."
The Kaski ban of Shahi was in line with instruction of the ruling CPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal to students and youths to retaliate against anarchic and reactionary tendencies directed against the democratic republic.
The youth wing had also warned of necessary retaliatory programs against the reactionary forces.
