The curfew order imposed in Birgunj Metropolitan City of Parsa district has been lifted.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Bhola Dahal said that the curfew, which began at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, was rescinded after 4:30 p.m .
According to CDO Dahal, a prohibitory order has now been issued from 6 p.m. Monday until 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The restricted area is bounded by Bypass Road in the east, Ranighat Bridge in the west, Powerhouse Chowk in the north, and Ghantaghar Chowk in the south.
During this period, all forms of gatherings, meetings, rallies, and demonstrations are strictly prohibited.
The tension originated on Sunday evening from a dispute between neighbors regarding vehicle parking. This dispute escalated into a physical clash, leaving some youths injured.
Following renewed tensions on Monday related to Sunday’s incident, the administration initially imposed a curfew to keep the situation under control.
Earlier on Monday, a meeting of the Harmony Mechanism was held under the chairmanship of CDO Dahal. The meeting decided to take action against the perpetrators, accept formal complaints from the victims, and involve religious leaders in facilitating legal proceedings.
Furthermore, it decided to prosecute individuals under cyber laws if they are found inciting unrest, spreading misinformation, creating viral content on social media, or using hate speech that disturbs religious and social harmony over this personal incident.
It was also decided that all stakeholders would issue public statements to maintain religious harmony.
