The mobile phones and laptop seized from the residence of Durga Prasai, coordinator of the Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti Tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan, have been sent for forensic examination.
On Thursday night, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, conducted a search at Prasai’s residence.
Police seized six mobile phones, one laptop, and a device containing CCTV recordings from the house.
Senior Superintendent of Police Santosh Khadka of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office said that the devices were seized as part of an investigation.
The devices have been sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory of Nepal Police.
“The devices were seized as part of the investigation into a case pending at the District Police Range, Bhaktapur,” he said. “We have sent them to the laboratory for forensic examination.”
Khadka said that the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, would be able to provide information about the specific offenses being investigated. However, the Bhaktapur police office also declined to disclose details.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Deepak Karki said that mobile phones and other materials had been seized for the investigation but did not specify the alleged offenses.
“I don’t know everything about the investigation. I’m also not in a position to ask the investigating officer,” he told Setopati.
Asked what offense had prompted police to enter and search Prasai’s home, he again declined to provide details.
“If something else comes up based on what was found during the search, that could constitute another offense,” he said. “It is part of the investigation. If something becomes clear in the next few days, it will be known then.”
Police have arrested Prasai multiple times in the past.
