The Supreme Court has ordered the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, to appear before it along with the items seized from the residence of Durga Prasai, coordinator of the Rastra, Rastriyata, Dharma, Sanskriti Tatha Nagarik Bachau Maha Abhiyan.
A bench of Justice Nripadhwaj Niraula on Monday ordered the District Police Range, Bhaktapur, to appear with the items taken from Prasai’s residence on August 20.
A team from the District Police Range and the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office had seized six mobile phones, a laptop, and a device containing CCTV recordings from Prasai’s residence.
Police claimed that the devices were seized for investigation purposes.
The seized devices were subsequently sent to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory for forensic examination.
Prasai’s wife, Uma, had filed a habeas corpus petition at the Supreme Court.
“She filed a habeas corpus petition stating that police arrived outside the house and prevented them from leaving, effectively restricting their movement,” said Joint Registrar Arjun Prasad Koirala, the Supreme Court spokesperson.
Hearing the petition, the court issued a show-cause order to the defendants, directing them to submit a written response within 24 hours.
