Prime Minister Balen Shah is scheduled to stay overnight at the Annapurna Eco Resort in Astam, Machhapuchchhre Rural Municipality-6, on Friday.
According to resort sources, no other tourist bookings are being accepted following confirmation that the prime minister would be staying there.
The Nepal Army is conducting security checks along the road leading to the resort. The army has restricted entry and exit for everyone except the resort's owners and staff. Representatives of the Nepal Army deployed for security checks said that security arrangements have been tightened because it is a private visit by the prime minister.
After staying overnight at the resort, PM Shah is reportedly scheduled to travel to Mustang on Saturday.
However, the District Police Office and the District Administration Office, Kaski, said that they had no information regarding his visit.
Krishna Bahadur Kunwar, a ward member of Hemja, Pokhara Metropolitan City-25, which borders Astam, has arrived in Astam hoping to meet PM Shah.
He expressed hope that he would be able to present local issues to the prime minister. However, the Nepal Army turned him back when he tried to visit the resort where the prime minister is scheduled to stay, he said.
"I want to meet the honorable prime minister and share our local problems, but I haven't been allowed to go to the resort," he said. "Maybe I'll get to meet him after he arrives!"
