Police have launched an investigation after a video recording of the statement given by the accused in the rape and murder of a three-year-old girl in Bara was made public.
The Madhesh Province Police Office initiated the investigation process after the video surfaced on social media on Monday.
Senior Superintendent of Police Prabhu Prasad Dhakal, spokesperson for the police office, confirmed that an investigation into the matter was underway.
“We are investigating how the video of the incident was leaked,” he said.
He said that action would be taken if the release of the video is found to have violated the law.
“We are investigating where and in what place the video was recorded. We are also investigating who recorded it and uploaded it to social media. If it is found to be against the law, whoever is responsible will face action,” he said.
The body of three-year-old Garima Chaudhary of Dasdhuri, Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City-1, was found on August 19 after she was allegedly raped and murdered. She had gone missing on August 16.
Police arrested a 16-year-old boy from Jitpur Simara-2 and 24-year-old Progress Chaudhary on charges of raping and murdering the girl.
