The main accused of smuggling of 33 kilograms of gold and murder of Sanam Shakya Chuda Mani Uprety (aka Gore) and two others have been brought to Kathmandu from Biratnagar for further investigation.
Gore, Bhujung Gurung and Tsering Wangdi Gurung have been brought to Kathmandu Monday morning. The Department of Money Laundering Investigation will also probe the three for disproportionate wealth.
The department has brought them to Kathmandu for investigation after the probe committee formed under Joint Secretary at the Home Ministry Ishwor Raj Paudel to investigate gold smuggling urged it to do so.
Communication Officer at the department Binod Lamichhane said it will initiate investigation against the trio from today itself. Gore will be kept at the Central Jail while the others will be kept in custody elsewhere in coordination with security agencies, according to Lamichhane.
The issue of 33 kilograms of gold smuggled through the Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) on January 23 came to the fore after the body of Shakya of Urlabari, who died while being tortured on charge of stealing that gold, was recovered in Biratnagar on March 2.
The probe committee has concluded that the gang of Gore smuggled 3,799.559 kilograms of gold in the past five years.
