Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa has instructed the committee formed to investigate smuggling of 33 kilograms of gold and murder of Sanam Shakya to carry on its operation without any inhibition.
Addressing the committee members, who had come to his office to brief him about recent developments, he told them to not be bothered by what others are saying about the committee's work.
"I have known about the comments of the three Nepal Police DIGs and the questions they have raised about legality of the committee from the media. But there is no logic in that," a member of the committee quoted Minister Thapa as saying. "They may have given their opinions but that does not matter."
Thapa lauded the committee's work until now and opined that the operation should be continued to reach to the root of the crime and make the remaining ones connected to the incident public. "Take the operation to conclusion. The government is with you," Thapa told the members.
The committee is currently working to arrest fugitive Mohan Agrawal, the reported owner of the 33 kilograms of gold, Ramesh, younger brother of the main accused Chuda Mani Uprety (aka Gore), and others, according to a committee source. "We will have some breakthrough in a few days," the source added.
The committee has already arrested Gore, Bhujung Gurung and others, and submitted them to the court. SSP Shyam Khatri and another accused Tsering Wangel Ghale have already surrendered before the court. "The committee will bring the accused to the book. The rest will depend on the court procedures," the source stated.
A member of the committee claimed that the committee has been fair in its investigation until now and nobody has been jailed without adequate evidence. "There have been comments regarding some specific individuals. We have seen what the previous committees did. The general public is seeing what we are doing."
