The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has sent a letter to the province chief of Bagmati, urging him not to recognize the decision of its provincial parliamentary party leader.
The RPP sent the letter after Uddhav Thapa, RPP parliamentary party leader in Bagmati province, submitted a letter supporting CPN-UML lawmaker Kiran Thapa Magar in his bid to become chief minister on Wednesday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha said that the parliamentary party leader’s decision to support the formation of the provincial government violated the party’s directive to remain neutral.
“On August 17, the party had instructed the Bagmati provincial parliamentary party to remain neutral during the government formation process. The parliamentary party leader’s decision to support government formation in violation of that directive, and the public disclosure of his signature, constitute a serious breach of discipline. The party’s disciplinary committee has already initiated the necessary process regarding the matter,” the statement said.
According to the statement, the party has also informed the province chief that the RPP does not support the letter submitted claiming the party’s lawmakers backed the formation of the Bagmati government, and has requested him not to recognize it.
Shrestha said that the party had taken serious note of reports claiming that RPP supported the formation of a new Bagmati government.
“There is no truth to the claim that that RPP has agreed to the formation of the government. At a meeting held on August 5, the party’s central executive committee decided not to participate in any numerical maneuvering for government formation. The meeting also authorized the party’s chairman to take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time, if any situation requiring a decision arises, keeping the broader interests of the party in mind,” he said.
