President Ram Chandra Paudel addressed the nation at 3:30 p.m. on Monday.
Earlier in the day, he visited Bidur in Nuwakot, where he spoke with people affected by the devastating Bhotekoshi-Trishuli flood that struck on August 26, causing massive loss of life and property.
The president assured those waiting for news of their family members and friends that search and rescue operations would continue without interruption.
He also urged political parties, elected representatives, civil society, organizations involved in humanitarian assistance and rescue operations, the private sector, the business community, and all citizens to stand united during this difficult time.
“This is not a time for division. Nor is it a time to blame one another or get caught up in political disputes and confrontations. This is a time to demonstrate national unity and solidarity. It is also a time for reconstruction, rehabilitation, and economic recovery. As we move toward reconstruction, rehabilitation, and economic recovery, I believe we should also reconsider our development model,” he said.
