The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to halt the demolition of squatter settlements.
A bench comprising Justices Kumar Regmi and Nityananda Pandeya issued the order on Friday.
Law student Majid Ansari had filed a petition, seeking an interim order to stop the use of bulldozers to demolish squatter settlements across Nepal.
According to Joint Registrar Arjun Prasad Koirala, spokesperson for the Supreme Court, the court has ordered that any ongoing or planned demolition activities must now be stopped.
“An interim order has been issued. This means that no further demolitions, including in squatter settlements, should be carried out anywhere, and that the status quo must be maintained,” he said.
