Senior Vice-chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), Rabindra Mishra, has left the party.
In a Facebook status posted on Saturday morning, Mishra said that he had resigned from all party responsibilities effective immediately.
"I have resigned from all party responsibilities effective today. My stance on the restoration of the monarchy and good governance remains unchanged. For the time being, I will continue to express my views and positions as a non-partisan (independent) individual," he wrote.
Mishra lost the House of Representatives election in Kathmandu-1, marking his third electoral defeat in the constituency.
"The decision I am taking today is not made out of disappointment, despair, or haste. It comes after much deliberation. Despite widespread public sentiment across the country in favor of restoring the monarchy, the Rastriya Prajatantra Party has repeatedly failed to organize and capitalize on that sentiment for various reasons. As the party’s senior vice-chairman, I am also responsible for this failure."
Mishra further emphasized his conviction that without a "Nation above Notion" approach, a "King for the Country," and a structural review of the current system, Nepal cannot be built or saved for future generations amid changing geopolitics and worsening internal conditions.
