The Central Committee elected from the Special General Convention of Nepali Congress (NC) is going to the central office in Sanepa Friday.
Gagan Thapa was elected president from the Special General Convention on January 14.
The Central Committee led by Thapa had not visited the central office in Sanepa until now. Two meetings of the Central Committee and the Parliamentary Board were held outside the central office in party palaces and hotels.
NC Spokesperson Dev Raj Chalise stated that they would go to the central office tomorrow. "Along with the president, we will go to the central office in Sanepa tomorrow, and the Central Committee meeting will also be held there," he told Setopati.
He mentioned that since most leaders have already left for their respective constituencies for the House of Representatives elections, a meeting of the central members available in the Kathmandu Valley is being organized. He also noted that the Central Committee meeting would take place Friday afternoon.
The new Central Committee emerged through a Special General Convention held amidst the disagreement of the outgoing NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba's faction.
While the Election Commission has already recognized the Central Committee elected from the Special General Convention, the outgoing President Deuba and outgoing Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka’s faction had approached the Supreme Court against it.
The Supreme Court, however, did not issue an interim order on this matter.
Leaders and supporters of the youth association Tarun Dal from the outgoing President Deuba's faction had stayed at the central office in Sanepa for a few days to prevent the new leadership from claiming the office. However, they have now vacated the central office.
Tarun Dal President Bidwan Gurung issued a statement urging everyone to focus on the elections. President Gurung and Tarun Dal cadres close to him had stayed in Sanepa for a few days, sitting around fires.
The Congress central office was set on fire during the Gen-Z movement on September 9. Repair work on the office, which was damaged by the arson, is currently underway.
