Bagmati CM Thapa Magar wins vote of confidence

Bagmati province Chief Minister Kiran Thapa Magar has won a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly.

A majority of lawmakers supported the confidence motion he presented in the provincial assembly on Tuesday.

The Bagmati Provincial Assembly has 104 members. Of them, 58 lawmakers participated in Tuesday’s vote. A total of 57 votes were cast in favor of the chief minister's proposal, which constitutes a majority.

Chief Minister Thapa Magar sought the vote of confidence under Article 168(4) of the Constitution of Nepal and Rule 143 of the Bagmati Provincial Assembly Regulations, 2017.

The Nepali Congress boycotted the provincial assembly session.

The new Bagmati government led by Chief Minister Thapa Magar was formed with the support of the CPN-UML, Nepali Communist Party (NCP), and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP).

The new government was formed amid a dispute within the RPP. The party had also taken disciplinary action against four lawmakers, including its parliamentary party leader, Uddhav Thapa.
