The Nepali Congress faction led by party President Sher Bahadur Deuba is also preparing to hold gatherings of central members and youths close to it.
A meeting held on Thursday at Deuba’s residence, attended by leaders and heads of sister organizations close to him, decided to organize gatherings of central members, district presidents, and youths, according to a leader.
“It has been decided to hold a gathering of central members at a hotel in New Baneshwar tomorrow morning,” the leader said. However, neither the president nor the acting president will be invited to the gathering, the leader added.
Preparations are also underway to include around 30 central members close to Deuba who had supported holding the general convention before the election.
Similarly, a youth gathering is scheduled for January 11 at the central office in Sanepa. The special general convention is set to be inaugurated on the same day. The Deuba faction is organizing the youth gathering targeting that event.
Despite the party president and acting president not agreeing to it, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma have called a special general convention for January 11-12.
While the establishment faction claims that the special general convention lacks justification, the two general secretaries say that it is mandatory under the statute.
The Deuba faction is also preparing to hold a gathering of district presidents close to it on January 12.
As district presidents have begun issuing statements supporting the special general convention, the Deuba faction is now organizing its own gatherings in response.
The president and acting president’s faction has been arguing that the party should now focus on the upcoming election and hold the 15th general convention in May.
