Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) Senior Vice-chairman Rabindra Mishra has said that the RPP is not calling for absolute monarchy.
Addressing a mass gathering organized by the party in Kathmandu on Tuesday, Mishra said that the RPP demands that a descendant of Prithvi Narayan Shah, who can be regarded as a symbol of unity by everyone, be given a place within the framework of democracy.
"We must now reinstate the monarchy represented by a descendant of Prithvi Narayan Shah, who can be accepted as a symbol of unity by people of all ethnicities, languages, religions, and cultures in the country, above politics. The Rastriya Prajatantra Party is not calling for absolute monarchy; this must be understood. We should also give a place to the monarchy within the framework of democracy. Political parties should also be included as a symbol of modern power. Political parties have made thousands of mistakes. They have committed errors that have weakened the nation and the state itself," he said, according to News Agency Nepal.
He emphasized the need to form a government that includes everyone with a big heart.
Meanwhile, RPP General Secretary Dhawal Shumsher Rana said that an active monarchy is no longer possible in Nepal.
Speaking at the mass gathering on Tuesday, Rana said that they do not agree with the idea of an active monarchy.
“Many friends talk about an active monarchy. We do not agree with that. Now we need a constitutional monarchy, not an active monarchy. I have clarified this after asking the king himself. The sons and daughters of Nepal must run the country. The monarchy should play the role of a guardian. We must be clear on this matter. This gathering is meant to uphold the idea of a Sanatan Hindu kingdom. It is a place to awaken that consciousness,” he said.
