The State Affairs and Good Governance Committee of the House of Representatives made two decisions during its meeting on Wednesday.
According to Committee Chairman Ramhari Khatiwada, the committee decided to request the National Assembly to remove provisions in the Federal Civil Service Bill, passed by the House of Representatives, that conflict with the cooling-off period. Additionally, the committee agreed to urge the speaker of the House to investigate who were involved in including provisions conflicting with the cooling-off period.
Most lawmakers who spoke at the committee meeting demanded the formation of a parliamentary investigation committee on the matter.
Committee Chairman Khatiwada said that a request was made to the National Assembly to remove the provision in Section 82 (5) of the Civil Service Bill as it conflicts with the cooling-off period.
The committee had agreed to include a provision in the bill prohibiting civil servants from taking up constitutional or diplomatic appointments for two years after their retirement or resignation. However, the bill passed by the House was found to contain provisions conflicting with the cooling-off period, causing an uproar.
