The Nepali Congress has set a final deadline to renew and update active memberships for the party’s 15th general convention.
According to the party’s central office, active memberships can be renewed and updated from August 31 to September 4.
The municipal conventions are scheduled to begin on September 9. The party said that it had provided an additional four-day window for updating active memberships to ensure that no one is left out of the general convention.
A statement issued by Acting Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Dulal said that a meeting of the membership management central committee, chaired by General Secretary and committee coordinator Pradip Paudel and held on August 30 in the presence of Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa, decided to extend the deadline.
“Taking into consideration the party’s broader interests, unity, and requests from party colleagues, the meeting decided to provide an opportunity for active members who had missed the deadline for renewal and updating to renew and update their active memberships from August 31 to September 4, 2026,” the statement said.
Most former office-bearers, including former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba, as well as some district presidents and party workers from the non-establishment faction, have not yet updated their active memberships. However, they had renewed their memberships by December 25 last year. Some leaders who did not participate in the special general convention held in January have also not updated their active memberships.
Recently, the Nepali Congress released a schedule through the central election committee, according to which the central convention will be held from October 2 to 5, with subordinate committee conventions taking place before that, as per the timetable previously set by the central committee.
