Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has laid foundation stone for the federal parliament building on Wednesday.
The parliament building will be built at Putali Bagaincha inside the Singha Durbar at a cost of Rs 5.30 billion.
It will have two main halls for the upper and lower Houses, parliament secretariat, party offices and parliamentary committees.
The parliament premises will be spread over 173 ropanis, with the building occupying 45 percent of the area and 27 percent of open area. There will be area for parking 700 vehicles

The federal Houses are currently kept at the International Conference Center in New Baneshwore paying an annual rent of Rs 150 million. The federal parliament secretariat, however, is inside the Singha Durbar. The old parliament building is dilapidated after the Gorkha Earthquake in 2015 despite renovation at the time of SAARC Summit.
The government plans to complete the building in three years. The Department of Urban Development and Building Construction under the Urban Development Ministry will construct the building.
