Nepali Congress leader Bimalendra Nidhi has said that the federal democratic republic has been established in the country due to the struggle and contribution made by the freedom fighters.
Addressing a memorial assembly commemorating the 50th memorial day of fighter for democracy Ram Narayan Mishra here Thursday, he said all should beware of what he called the sinister clouds hanging over the democratic system.
Nidhi said the tendency of taking the nation and the party as synonymous was dangerous for democracy.
"It is unfortunate that the communists who have embraced democratic system have started to tilt toward an authoritarian one-party system of late," he said.
Member of Ram Narayan Memorial Foundation, Kishori Saha said the late Mishra has made significant contribution to the country's democratic movement.
