A total of 219 families from the squatter settlements of Thapathali, Gairigaun, and Sinamangal – demolished under the directive of Prime Minister Balen Shah – have arrived at Dasharath Stadium by Sunday noon.
After police demolished the settlements, families who had nowhere else to go and were unable to arrange housing on their own were first taken to the stadium to collect their details. After completing the process, arrangements have been made to accommodate them in five different holding centers.
So far, a total of 997 individuals from 219 families have arrived at the stadium. The High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilization (HPCIDBC) and the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority (KVDA) are currently documenting their information.
Both bodies have set up separate desks in the western corner of the stadium to collect information via registration forms.
According to Kumar Simkhada, a social mobilizer for the HPCIDBC, the number of entries recorded on these forms has reached 219.
"It is much more crowded compared to yesterday. While the number of people coming from the Thapathali settlement is decreasing, there has been a sudden surge in people arriving from settlements in Sinamangal, Gairigaun, and Shantinagar areas. We have added more desks today," Simkhada said. "The 219 families are a consolidated figure. We will now prepare separate data showing how many came from each location.”
Among those who filled out forms on Saturday, 31 families were sent to Kirtipur. A holding center has been established at the Satsang Bhawan in Kirtipur to house the displaced families. Since that center reached full capacity with those 31 families, arrangements were made for the remaining individuals at other locations.
