The devastating flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26 has caused an estimated Rs 387.54 billion in damage, according to a preliminary assessment.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), under the Ministry of Home Affairs, shared this information during a regular press briefing on Thursday.
NDRRMA Chief Executive Dharmaraj Uprety said that the flood caused extensive damage to buildings, settlements, bridges, health and education infrastructure, agriculture, energy, electricity, and telecommunications, among other sectors.
According to Uprety, an estimated Rs 7.95 billion will be required over the next four months for the early recovery and restoration of the affected areas.
“We have received data indicating that the total damage across all sectors currently stands at Rs 387.54 billion,” Uprety said. “We estimate that Rs 7.95 billion will be required over the next four months for early recovery.”
He said that the collection of data on damage is continuing alongside search, rescue, and relief operations.
The authority said that 114 people, including a Chinese national, were rescued from the flood-affected northern areas and brought to Kathmandu on Thursday alone. Another 20 people were rescued from other affected areas.
According to the authority, 1,259 bodies have been recovered so far, while 5,083 people remain missing after the disaster.
