The government has begun collecting DNA samples to speed up the identification process for citizens who went missing in the devastating flood in Rasuwa.
DNA samples are being collected at Nepal Police Hospital in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, to help identify those who remain missing after the flood.
According to the police administration, the measure was taken to ensure scientific identification of flood victims, considering the possibility that bodies recovered from the flood may be severely damaged or difficult to identify.
Immediate legal heirs or close relatives of missing persons have been requested to provide DNA samples.
According to Nepal Police Hospital, any one of the missing person’s father, mother, son, or daughter may visit the hospital and provide a DNA sample, either through blood or a swab.
Rescue operations are continuing in the flood-affected areas, while unidentified bodies recovered from the disaster will be identified by comparing them with the collected DNA samples.
Police have urged family members of missing persons to visit Nepal Police Hospital in Maharajgunj as soon as possible to provide samples and assist in the identification process.
