The District Administration Office of Bara has imposed a curfew in Simara on Thursday as well.
The administration enforced the curfew after clashes broke out between Gen Z youth protestors and the police.
According to the District Administration Office, a curfew order has been issued, effective from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.
The curfew has been imposed within 500 meters on both sides of the Pathlaiya-Birgunj road section from south of Pathlaiya Chowk to Jitpur Lalkapul and within 500 meters of Simara Airport.
The order, issued by Chief District Officer Dharmendra Kumar Mishra, states that under Sections 6 (a) and (b) of the Local Administration Act 1971, no movement, gathering, rally, demonstration, meeting, or encirclement is allowed in these areas.
Gen Z youths continued their protest on Thursday, demanding action against members of the UML-affiliated National Youth Federation Nepal who allegedly assaulted Gen Z leaders.
After Gen Z youths staged a demonstration at Simara Chowk, transportation along the Birgunj-Pathlaiya section of the Tribhuvan Highway has been disrupted.
Shops and businesses in Simara Bazaar remain closed.
The protestors have demanded strict action against the UML leaders who they say attacked them during their peaceful protest on Wednesday.
They have also filed a formal complaint with the Area Police Office, Simara, naming several individuals including Tara Basnet of Simara Sub-metropolitan City-1 as defendants.
Gen Z leader Samrat Upadhyaya had posted a video message on Facebook, warning of protests if those who assaulted him and other Gen Z youths were not punished by 10 a.m.
On Wednesday afternoon, UML cadres and Gen Z youths clashed during a demonstration. In protest, the Gen Z youths staged a demonstration in front of Simara Airport. After the police baton-charged the crowd, clashes broke out between the protestors and the police.
Protestors pelted stones at the police and vandalized the airport gate.
To bring the situation under control, police fired tear gas, and the District Administration Office imposed a curfew from 12:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday. Police have assured that those involved in the incident will be brought to justice.
According to police, among those named in the complaint, Dhan Bahadur Shrestha of Jitpur Simara Sub-metropolitan City-2 and Kaimuddin Ansari of Jitpur Simara-6 have already been arrested.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bijay Raj Pandit, spokesperson for the District Police Office, Bara, said that further investigation is underway.
