Prime Minister Balendra Shah met with representatives of the construction industry on Thursday to discuss challenges facing the sector, the promotion of construction businesses, and the development of physical infrastructure.
The meeting was held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers with office-bearers of the Federation of Contractors' Associations of Nepal (FCAN).
PM Shah said that the construction sector is a vital foundation of Nepal's economic development, job creation, and infrastructure development. He added that the government is positive about resolving the practical problems facing the sector.
He stressed that active and effective cooperation among all stakeholders is essential to ensure the completion of development projects on time, while making the construction business dignified, transparent, accountable, and results-oriented.
The discussion was attended by FCAN President Nicholas Pandey, Senior Vice-president Mukesh Pant, General Secretary Shivahari Ghimire, Bagmati Province Vice-president Bal Krishna Thapa, and former president and advisor Jayaram Lamichhane.
During the meeting, the representatives briefed PM Shah on the challenges faced by the construction sector, including payment issues, deadline extensions, contract management, timely implementation of projects, price adjustment, banking facilities, and investment-related problems.
They also expressed the view that cooperation between the government and the private sector must be made more effective to revitalize the construction industry.
