The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has decided to hold its general convention in Kathmandu from December 12 to 14.
The decision was taken during the party's Central Committee meeting held in Kathmandu on June 19 and 20.
The RPP last held its general convention in 2021. According to the party statute, the regular general convention should have been held by November 4 last year.
However, party Chairman Rajendra Lingden extended the tenure by six months through the central executive committee, as permitted by the party statute. That extension expired on June 1, after which the central committee meeting fixed the date for the general convention.
Several senior leaders, including former chairmen Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Kamal Thapa, and Prakash Chandra Lohani, were absent from the meeting that set the general convention date.
Despite this, Chairman Lingden said, "The RPP is fully focused on the general convention. I appeal to all party leaders and cadres to participate in the general convention process without getting entangled in any arguments or excuses."
According to party spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, a main organizing committee led by Chairman Lingden has been formed to ensure the successful completion of the general convention.
“The committee will include members of the central executive committee, office-bearers, central committee members, chair and members of the advisory committee, heads of various central departments, provincial chairs, district chairs, federal and provincial lawmakers, and chairs of sister organizations. The party’s central executive committee meeting will form various subcommittees as needed,” Shrestha said in a statement issued after the meeting.
Shrestha also said that various reports presented at the meeting were endorsed with amendments. The party approved guidelines on active membership distribution, organizational elections, and election procedures.
