The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has brought Nepali Congress leader and former foreign minister Arzu Rana Deuba under the scope of its investigation regarding the e-passport procurement process.
An investigation team from the CIAA visited her residence in Budhanilkantha on Tuesday to serve a notice, requiring her to appear for questioning.
The Deuba residence was damaged after it was set on fire during the Gen Z movement on September 9 last year. Demolition work is currently underway at the property.
The Deuba couple is currently not in the country. Even when they were in Nepal after the Gen Z movement, they did not stay at their Budhanilkantha residence and instead lived in a rented house in Maharajgunj.
The Deuba couple is currently abroad for medical treatment.
Ward Chairman of Budhanilkantha Municipality-2, Rajendra Shrestha, informed Setopati that the CIAA team contacted him to serve the notice regarding the e-passport case.
"The CIAA team contacted me because they needed to serve a notice to Arzu Rana Deuba for investigation. I facilitated their contact with Bhanu Deuba," he said.
Bhanu is the personal secretary to former prime minister and outgoing president of the Nepali Congress, Sher Bahadur Deuba.
When asked about the matter, Bhanu Deuba said that he had no information regarding the serving of a notice to former foreign minister Rana.
