Dil Bikash Rajbhandari, who has left the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and joined forces with Dhawal Shumsher Rana and Durga Prasai to form a new party, has leveled a series of allegations against RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden.
Rajbhandari questioned the source of Lingden’s wealth, asking how he was able to build a house in Kathmandu, open a resort in Ilam, and purchase a house in the United States.
"To borrow your own words – how did you, who could not afford enough food in the hills and had to migrate to Madhesh only recently, manage to build a luxurious building in the capital so quickly? Where did you source the funds to build a resort in Ilam? And where did the money to buy a house in America come from?" he asked.
He also referred to allegations of vehicle theft against Lingden.
A source close to Rajbhandari informed Setopati that he included these matters in a letter sent to Lingden via email.
"There are also allegations of vehicle theft against you. You face accusations of grabbing someone else’s land, serving jail time in a criminal case involving bodily harm, and pocketing a large sum of money by selling proportional representation (PR) seats. It is natural for the leaders and workers of the party to hang their heads in shame when a responsible person like the party chairman ignores such charges. It is because of these wrongful activities of yours that the party had to face such a crushing defeat," he stated.
Furthermore, he claimed that during the 2022 elections, Chairman Lingden and the party treasurer had taken Rs 4.5 million from him, of which only Rs 1 million was returned.
"Of the 4.5 million rupees that you and Treasurer Nilkantha Kafle took from me during the 2022 elections, you returned only 1 million rupees through your personal secretary, Chhatra Kathayat. Return the remaining 3.5 million rupees immediately without any stalling. Are you and the treasurer trying to swindle my money? Isn't doing such a thing akin to drinking the blood of one's own mother?" he questioned.
He also urged Chairman Lingden to vacate the house in Dhumbarahi that currently serves as the party's central office.
The RPP has not yet refuted these allegations. An official from the party remarked that they "should not pay attention to such accusations made by those who have already left the party."
