The Janamat Party has submitted a memorandum to the government, demanding the full implementation of past agreements, including the public disclosure of the Lal Commission report.
Party General Secretary Chandan Kumar Singh said that the memorandum was submitted through the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, demanding the full implementation of the 22-point, 8-point, and 11-point agreements reached with the Government of Nepal during the Madhesh, Tharuhat, and Swaraj movements.
Janamat Party Chairman CK Raut, along with other leaders and cadres, also staged a protest at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu on Monday.
“The agreements reached in the past must be implemented. The remaining tasks under the 22-point, 8-point, and 11-point agreements signed by the Government of Nepal during the Madhesh, Tharuhat, and Swaraj movements should be completed. Those prosecuted during political movements should be released from detention and prisons, and their cases withdrawn. The Lal Commission report should be made public,” the memorandum states.
The memorandum further calls for inclusivity within security agencies, including the Nepal Army. The Janamat Party has urged the government to immediately initiate the group recruitment of youths to ensure proportional and inclusive representation of Madheshi, Tharu, and Muslim communities within the Nepal Army and other security forces.
The third point in the memorandum calls for the declaration of full provincial autonomy. Citing the 8-point agreement reached between the Government of Nepal and the United Democratic Madheshi Front on February 28, 2008, the party has demanded that provinces be empowered and declared fully autonomous. It has mentioned that provinces must be granted political, administrative, and economic autonomy, and that local bodies must be placed under the jurisdiction of the provinces.
