The committee formed to investigate questions raised regarding the source of share investments and other assets of former home minister Sudan Gurung has been granted an additional five days.
The committee, chaired by former high court judge Achyut Prasad Bhandari, was granted this extension effective from Tuesday.
The committee also includes Financial Comptroller General Shova Kanta Poudel and Joint Attorney Achyut Mani Neupane as members.
Neupane said that the committee has completed the recording of former minister Gurung’s statement and the review of relevant facts.
"All other work is finished. We are now in the process of drafting the report. The five-day extension begins today," he said.
A Cabinet meeting held on May 6 had decided to form the committee to investigate and establish facts regarding issues raised about former home minister Gurung, who is also a member of the House of Representatives.
The committee was initially given a 15-day deadline, which expired on Monday.
On April 22, Gurung had resigned from his post, citing questions raised about him. He became embroiled in controversy after business partnerships were revealed between him and Deepak Bhatta, who is currently in custody for investigation into the source of share investments and money laundering.
At the time of his resignation, Gurung said that he stepped down to avoid any potential conflict of interest while in office.
