The National Investigation Department, which was under the Ministry of Home Affairs, has once again been brought under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers.
A Cabinet meeting held on Wednesday approved the Government of Nepal (Allocation of Business) Regulations, 2026, placing the National Investigation Department under the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to the approved regulations, the jurisdiction of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has also been expanded. The office will now oversee 48 agencies and areas of responsibility.
Previously, when CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli was prime minister, the National Investigation Department, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation, and the Department of Revenue Investigation were brought under the Prime Minister’s Office on February 28, 2019.
On September 25 last year, the government formed under the leadership of Sushila Karki after the Gen Z movement had returned these bodies to their respective ministries.
At that time, the National Investigation Department was moved back under the Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Department of Money Laundering Investigation and the Department of Revenue Investigation were returned to the Ministry of Finance. Now, the National Investigation Department has once again been placed under the Prime Minister’s Office.
