The government has appointed senior physician and medical educationist Prof Dr Jagdish Prasad Agrawal as the honorary health advisor to Prime Minister Balen Shah.
The decision to appoint Dr Agrawal was made during Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting.
A former dean of the Tribhuvan University Institute of Medicine (IOM), Dr Agrawal will provide necessary counsel to the prime minister on national health policy, public health challenges, and reforms in medical education.
"We believe that the appointment of Prof Dr Jagdish Prasad Agrawal, an experienced and expert figure in the health sector, will provide the prime minister with crucial technical support and recommendations for improving the country’s health policy and services. Having led a prestigious institution like the IOM, he will contribute his expertise and time to the state in an honorary capacity," said Deepa Dahal, the prime minister’s press and research expert.
The prime minister’s secretariat said that Dr Agrawal’s appointment is viewed as significant, given that PM Shah has placed public health among the top priorities of his tenure.
Dr Agrawal will serve as an expert without receiving any salary or financial benefits from the state.
