The government is preparing to house landless squatters displaced from Teku’s Banshighat, Balkhu, and Shankhamul areas at five holding centers.
According to Deepa Dahal, press advisor to Prime Minister Balen Shah, after collecting their details, displaced individuals will be temporarily managed at the following locations: Tewa office in Dhapakhel, Lalitpur; Electricity Training Center in Kharipati, Bhaktapur; Agricultural Development Bank Training Center in Bode; Nagarkot Water Supply Training Center; and Red Cross building in Banepa, Kavre.
Dahal stated that, among those displaced on Friday, 72 individuals have registered themselves as landless.
"So far, 72 people seeking safe management have voluntarily reached the stadium and registered their details. Hundreds more are in line," she said. "A joint team of the Department of Urban Development and Building Construction, the Kathmandu Valley Development Authority, the High Powered Committee for Integrated Development of Bagmati Civilization, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Police is collecting details in a guardian’s role."
She added that along with data collection, those arriving at the stadium are receiving health check-ups and necessary psychological counseling. This, she said, is helping reduce fear and build confidence among landless squatters and informal settlers.
